After you have purchased the theme, the archive downloaded from Themeforest will look something like this:
(The theme itself is located in the sylver folder.)
Login to your WordPress Dashboard (your-site.com/wp-admin/), and then navigate to Appearance > Themes.
Then click on the Add New button.
A new page will open. Click on the Upload Theme button.
Press the Choose File button.
A dialog box will show up, asking you to add a .zip archive.
ATTENTION: A common mistake that users make at this point, is that they try to upload the .zip archive with all the files that they have downloaded from Themeforest. You must upload the .zip archive with only the theme itself, not the .zip archive with all files.
In order for this not to happen, be sure you have downloaded the Installable file only from Themeforest.
That's the .zip you must upload.
The theme will now upload. After the upload is done, you need to click on Activate.
That's it. You're done.
Sometimes because of the quality of hosting providers or diffrent aspects that may occur, WordPress native theme uploader may not work. In this case, you have to upload the theme via FTP.
To do that, open your FTP client, login, and navigate to public_html/wp-content/themes
Then, extract here the folder named "sylver" from the main .zip file you've downloaded from ThemeForest.
The INSIDE of the sylver folder should look like this:
Now that the theme is uploaded, you just need to activcate it from the WordPress Dashboard.
To do that, login into your WordPress Dashboard, and go to Appearance > Themes..
You should see Sylver theme listed there. Click Activate.
That's it. The theme is now activated and ready to use.
As soon as you install the theme you will be prompted with a message as follows:
This is because this theme requires and recommends a series of plugin in order to work correctly.
Vafpress Post Formats UI is a required plugin that allows this theme to display the Posts Formats in a better way.
Contact Form 7 is a recommended plugin that is responsible for the contact form.
Kirki is a recommended plugin that is responsible for the advanced customization options that are present in the Wordpress Customizer (fonts, colors). Without it, you will still be able to customize serveral things in the theme, but not fonts and colors.
Sylver Social Share Buttons is a recommended plugin that is responsible for the social share buttons that are placed at the end of the post. If you don't want to use this plugin, you are free to use any other social plugin you preffer.
WP Instagram Widget is a recommended plugin that is responsible for the Instagram Widget present in the Sidebar, and also for the Instagram Footer zone.
In order to install this plugins, you have to click on Begin installing plugins.
After the plugins are installed succesfully, you will be prompted with a message as follows:
Click on Return to Required Plugins Installer
One last step, on this page, select all the plugins, select Activate from the dropdown and click on Apply button.
That's it, now all the plugins are activated.

Creating a post in WordPress is very simple. In dashboard, just navigate to Posts > Add New. There you will find the editor which helps you create all your posts.
The Sylver WordPress theme is designed to work only with posts that have thumbnails attached to them. Without thumbnails, you may notice the theme looks silly and can not be used properly.
In order to add a thumbnail image to a post, you have to scroll down a little in the post editor, and click on Set featured image
After that, a dialog will pop up, indicating you to upload a picture. Press the Upload button and upload a picture from your machine. After the image is uploaded, it will appear in the gallery and will be automatically selected.
Press Set featured image and you are done.
There is no recommended thumbnail size, but keep in mind it is better to upload high resolution thumbnails, in order to look good on all visitors screens. If you upload a thumbnail image that is too small, it will look pixelated, but also if you upload a thumbnail with an exaggerated resolution, it will slow down the page loading time. The default thumbnail sizes that were used in the Demo Content were 1920x1080px.
As you may have noticed, in the post editor on the top, there are various options for your post format. The Sylver WordPress theme supports the Standard, Gallery, Video, and Audio post formats.
In order for this Post Formats to work, you will need to install Vafpress Post Formats UI plugin. The detailed installation guide is present in the Installing the Required Plugins section of this documentation.
But what are these Post Formats?
The diffrence between the Standard and the Gallery, Video, Audio post formats, is that the latter post formats allow you to insert some "highlighted" content at the top of the post.
The files necessary for the post formats are stored in the template directory/template-parts/ folder, and they are named as follows:
content-single.php - for the standard post format
content-single-ns.php - for the standard post format with no Sidebar
content-single-audio.php - for the audio post format
content-single-ns-audio.php - for the audio post format with no Sidebar
content-single-gallery.php - for the gallery post format
content-single-ns-gallery.php - for the gallery post format with no Sidebar
content-single-video.php - for the video post format
content-single-ns-video.php - for the video post format with no Sidebar
The Video Post Format is used mostly to insert a highlighted video at the top of the post.
In the Video URL box you can put any link to an online video from sites like Youtube, Vimeo, etc. and they will automatically show in the final post like this:
The Audio Post Format is used mostly to insert a highlighted audio at the top of the post.
In the Audio URL box you can put any link to an online audio from sites like Soundcloud, etc. and they will automatically show in the final post like this:
The Gallery Post Format is used mostly to insert a highlighted image gallery at the top of the post.
In the gallery box, press the Pick Images button.
After that, a dialog will show up, poiting you either to upload new images, or select some existing ones from your Library.
If you want to upload new images, press the button Select Files and select the images from your local machine.
To pick the images from your local gallery, just select them
and click on Add Images. Also, Sylver theme supports gallery captions, so you can write captions on any photo you want, as highlighted in the screenshot above.
The final gallery in the post will look like this:
* the text shown under the image is the caption, which is completely optional.
Apart from the various Post Formats, you can customize also the overall post style.
You just need to head over the Customizer, under the section Single Post Style, and there you will have a couple of options to customize the overall aspect of the single post. In the picture attached below (click for fullscreen) you will find a list of all the customization options for the single post.
As shown in the screenshot above, you can customize pretty much anything, and also hide anything you don't want to show up, including even the Sidebar.
The overall aspect of a single post without the Sidebar.
Apart from the Post Formats presented here, you are also able to choose between two Post Templates - Default and No Sidebar.
Why is this useful given the fact that you already can disable the Sidebar on posts via the Customizer? Well, because it lets you disable the Sidebar individually on each post. For example, if you want a post to have a Sidebar, and another one not to have it, you can do that.
To choose between multiple Post Templates, head over the Dashboard > Posts and click on whatever post you want to edit.
There, you will see the option to choose between the two templates mentioned before.
In order to add the pre-styled social share buttons at the end of the post, you need to install a plugin.
To activate the plugin, please read the Installing the required plugins section of this documentation.
After the plugin has been activated, in the WordPress Dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Sylver Social Share Buttons.
On this new page, check whatever icons do you want to show up, and hit Save Changes.
That's it, the social share buttons will automatically display at the end of your posts.
If you want to import to your blog the exact content you have seen on the demo, look in the downloaded archive for an .xml file in the Demo content folder.
Log in into your WordPress Dashboard, and navigate to Tools > Import. Under the name "WordPress" click on Install Now.
After the WordPress Importer is installed, you will have the option to run the importer.
Click on Run Importer.
After that, a dialog will show up, indicating you to upload the .xml file. Press Choose file, select the .xml file from your local machine, and then press Upload file and import.
That's it. All the posts from the demo content are now imported to your site.
Permalinks are the links of your single posts. By default, WordPress gives you a permalink structure that looks like this:
That link structure may be considered too long and bad for SEO. Basically, the majority of people want to change that to a more practical one. To do that, in the WordPress Dashboard, head over Settings > Permalinks.
There you will find a couple of options. By default, the option checked is the one shown below.
If you want to have a better permalink structure, the recommended option to check is the one called Post name.
Check it, and hit Save Changes. Now your URLs will look like this:
Creating a page in WordPress is very simple. In dashboard, just navigate to Pages > Add New. There you will find the editor which helps you create all your pages.
In order the customize the Page Style, head over the Customizer > Page Style, and there you will have a couple of options to customize the overall aspect of the Page. In the picture attached below (click for fullscreen) you will find a list of all the customization options for the Page.
As shown in the screenshot above, you can customize pretty much anything, and also hide anything you don't want to show up, including even the Sidebar. Here is the overall look of the page without the Sidebar:
In order to create a Contact Page you need to download the Contact Form 7 plugin. The detailed installation guide is present in the Installing the Required Plugins section of this documentation.
After the plugin has been activated, there are few more steps to go. You can see in the left menu in the WordPress Dashboard, a new section appeared, called Contact. Click on it, and you will discover that the plugin allows you to completely customize the contact form you want. However, Sylver theme comes with this forms already styled so you don't need to worry too much about that. If you want, just copy the code highlighted from the default form.
The next step is to create a new page called Contact, where you will paste the code you've just copied. So head to Pages > Add new, and create the new page as follows:
Remember to include your new page in the menu, so it can be visible in the navigation bar.
After you are done, the contact page should look pretty much like this:
This theme comes with the contact forms already styled for you. Also, if you want to add further modifications to the form you can also do that from the plugin's settings under Contact section in the dashboard menu.
The Page Templates gives you the possibility to choose between 8 Page Templates: Default Page, Page No Sidebar, Page Carousel, Page Carousel No Sidebar, Page Featured Boxes, Page Featured Boxes No Sidebar, Page Carousel Featured Boxes and Page Carousel Featured Boxes No Sidebar
Why is this useful given the fact that you already can disable the Sidebar on pages via the Customizer? Well, because it lets you disable the Sidebar individually on each page you want. For example, if you want a page to have a Sidebar, and another one not to have it, you can do that. The same thing for Carousel and Featured Boxes. You can add them in any combination, individually, on any page you want.
To choose between multiple Pages Templates, head over the Dashboard > Pages and click on whatever page you want to edit.
There, you will see the option to choose between the templates mentioned before.
WordPress Customizer gives you a couple of options in customizing your site identity.
Under the Site Identity menu in the customizer you are given a couple of fields for your site title, description, and favicon. The recommended size for the favicon is 512px.
In order the customize the Home Style, head over the Customizer > Home Style, and there you will have a couple of options to customize the overall aspect of the Home. In the picture attached below (click for fullscreen) you will find a list of all the customization options.
* Hiding the Sidebar on home page will not affect displaying it on posts and pages. If you want to hide it from there, you must go the respective sections in WordPress Customizer and disable it from there.
Sylver theme gives you the possibility to choose between 7 home styles for displaying the posts, as follows:
The files necessary for the home layouts are stored in the template directory folder, and they are named as follows:
content-chess.php - for the chess layout
content-grid.php - for the grid layout
content-list.php - for the list layout
content-listngrid.php - for the layout where the first post is list-like and the others are displayed as grid
content-classic.php - for the classic layout
content-classicngrid.php - for the layout where the first post is classic-like and the others are displayed as grid
content-classicnlist.php - for the layout where the first post is classic-like and the others are displayed as list
If you want to display a static homepage instead of your latest blog posts, you can do that by going into your WordPress Dashboard, and then navigate to Settings > Reading.
By default, the option selected is Your latest posts, but you can always check for A static page and then select for what page you want to show up.
You can also change the number of posts that show up on the homepage, by changing the number in the "Blog pages show at most" box.
The default number of posts is 5. You can put any number of posts you want.
Sylver theme gives you the possibility to choose between the classic WordPress page navigation and the numbered page navigation. To do that, simply select the prefered choice in the Home Page Navigation Style subsection
In order to change the logo, head over the Customizer, and click on the Header section.
After that, click on Disable Navbar Search and then hit Save Changes.
In order to change the logo, head over the Customizer, and click on the Header section.
After that, a screen like this will appear:
So you can see there's a little note there. You may wonder why you need to do that.
The explanation is very simple. The Sylver theme is made to be retina-ready, and that means it looks good on every possible device that acces your blog, especially high-resolution ones like the newest Apple products (iPhones, Retina iMacs, etc.).
The trick is that, in order to display fully crisp logos on retina devices, you have to make them double in height and width than the declared values in the CSS. Otherwise, they will look blurry.
Of course, if you are not interested in any of the above aspects, you can just upload a normal logo, and specify its width and height and you're done.
But if you want to have a retina logo that looks great on all devices, you have to make it double in size than the values you declare. For example, if you want to have a final logo of 200px * 100px, you fill in the blanks with this values to define the real div dimensions, but after that, you will create a logo with the sizes of 400px * 200px. This trick will strech it and will make it look crisp no matter the pixel denisty of the device.
For example, the default Sylver logo, is displayed on the site with the default dimensions of 182px * 90px, but in reality, the .png file has the dimensions of 364px * 180px (exactly double).
If you are not sure you full understand how to make a retina-ready logo for your theme, you can always contact us and we will help you.
Sylver theme supports four social icons that can be added in the header of your website.
When you first install the theme, the dots will be empty, because you need to fill in some data in order for them to work.
To do that, in the theme Customizer, head over Header Social Icons submenu.
Once you are there, you will be given a couple of options.
The first one, is of course to disable the header social icons. If you want them to not display at all in the header, just check the box as shown below.
Moving on to the next options, cutomizing this icons is pretty simple.
Every icon needs a "type" and an "URL" for your profile.
After you fill the blanks, the icon will automatically update with the specified values.
